A highly important leaded Glass bronze and mosaic LOTUS lamp, Tiffany Studios , C1900-1910

This lamp appeared in Christies December 1997 auction. It sold for a record $2,807,500.

The leaded glass shade in a continuous frieze of waterlilies with their pendulous flowers, buds, and ombelle-like leaves in rich and varied shades of pink, red, yellow, green and blue forming an undulating border and suspended from chased bronze tendrils, a second set of eight tendrils suspends eight favrile glass shades to depict pink lotus flowers of globe form, the tendrils decending along the shaft, spreading and branching to enclose shaded green tesserae mosaic to resemble a large spreading lotus leaf chased on the edges to enhance the curl of the outer leaf edge, the base stamped TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK 352. 34 3/4" high, 28" diameter.
